This Outdoor Pursuits First Aid course has been created by ProTrainings to meet the requirements laid down by many outdoor pursuits governing bodies. It is aligned with the Institute for Outdoor Learning (IOL) Statement of Good Practice on Outdoor First Aid at Band 3. It also meets all the UK and European Resuscitation Council Guidelines 2021 as per HSE requirements. It includes both theoretical and practical assessments.
The course provides First Aid training tailored to help people cope with incidents in the outdoors. It covers primary and secondary care which has been adapted to the outdoor world, where the emergency services may be harder to access.
COURSE CONTENT
- Introduction to First Aid Training, including Scene Safety, Consent, Chain of Survival, Primary and Secondary Surveys, First Aid Kit contents, Monitoring and Handling/Moving casualties
- Heart Attack and Cardiac Arrest, including Adult CPR (Child and Infant CPR if appropriate), introduction to AEDs, use of face shields and masks, Recovery Position
- Choking in Adult (Child & Infant if appropriate)
- Bleeding Control, including significant and life-threatening bleeds, abdominal injuries & internal bleeding, minor wounds & shock
- Broken bones and soft tissue injuries, including sprains & strains, arm & leg injuries, chest, pelvic, crush, head & spinal injuries,
- Burns & Scalds
- Medical emergencies, including illness assessment, Diabetes, Asthma, Epilepsy, Stroke, Anaphylaxis, Hypothermia & Heat Stroke
